About This Activity

Intro to Cub Scouting BSA’s Cub Scout program is all about encouraging youth to make friends, be helpful to others, learn new skills and do their very best no matter the outcome. For this program, our focus is to provide interactive activities designed to be fun for children while teaching them about perseverance, developing problem-solving abilities and giving exposure to outdoor-based skills. Our goal is to provide an introduction to Scouting and potentially foster an interest in a full Scouting experience leading to character & leadership development, community involvement, and personal fitness. The Intro to Cub Scouting Program is open to all Kindergarteners through 5th graders whether they are already involved with a Cub Scout Pack or not. Students will be grouped from K-2nd grades and rd-5th grades. Some examples of program activities are as follows: Outdoor Activities: ● Making Stretchers & Using Splints ● Casting with Fishing Rod & Reel ● Team Building with Wooden Skis ● Intro to Orienteering ● Various Relay Races ● Setting up Tents ● Capture the Flag Indoor Activities: ● First Aid Essentials ● Leave No Trace ● Animal Track Id ● Paracord projects ● NOLS Games ● Craft building ● Knot Tying Program Leader Bios Matt Siekman, District Executive Matt has been a long standing BSA volunteer in the State College area for 12+ years and has served as a Den Leader & Cubmaster for a local Cub Scout Pack and still actively serves as a Troop Scoutmaster. As a District Executive for the Juniata Valley Council, Matt’s role is primarily to support the Centre, Juniata & Mifflin counties and help strengthen the scouting community through various outreach efforts, program development and working with volunteer leaders. Doug Baker, District Executive Doug is a native Central PA resident and has a long scouting history dating back to his time as a Cub Scout himself and earning the Eagle Scout rank along with being a Cubmaster and Scoutmaster.
