About This Activity
Math Team practice prepares 5th through 8th grade students who will be competing in the Math League and MathCounts competitions with the YSCP Math Team during the 2023-2024 school year. During practice, advanced math topics are discussed and students practice for the different math competitions. Miss E-H, one of the middle school math teachers, is the Math Team Coach. There are 5 Math League meets which are held on Wednesdays and one Saturday throughout the year (approximately once a month); the MathCounts (a national math competition for middle schoolers) regional competition is typically scheduled for the first Saturday of February, with the possibility of going on to higher levels of the competition. It is important that only those students who can commit to the competitions are signed up for Math Team. If interested in joining Math Team, please contact Miss E-H directly (essingerhileman@yscp.org); registration for this club will occur with Mrs. Khan once the team has been finalized. In addition, Math Team will begin in late September/early October and end before Extended Day ends in the spring; the exact dates will be set once the competition dates are set.
