About This Activity

Why is it easier to float in the ocean than the bathtub? How can a giant container ship float but a tiny pebble sinks? These are dense questions with even denser answers! Conduct experiments in the classroom and field to expose these salty secrets. Conduct your own water samples to investigate why they're so seriously salty. Adventure to a sandy beach to practice the principles of buoyancy as you explore local saltwater ecosystems. Caution: may cause serious fun, sandy pants, and salty skin. Includes: density experiments, beach exploration, water quality sampling, and snorkeling.
