What can the plants around us teach us? In this hands-on make and take club, students in grades 2–8 will explore botany, plant properties, and the ways plants have traditionally been used for healing and wellness. We will learn how to identify plants, practice safe, respectful, and sustainable foraging, and investigate the science behind how plants grow and what makes them unique. Each student will choose a healing plant to grow and care for while researching its properties and uses. We will use our learning to create items such as herbal balms and lotions, and students will build their own illustrated botany book to document plant identification, observations, uses, and discoveries. This club is designed as the first in a potential series that can continue to build students’ knowledge of plants, ecology, foraging, and traditional plant practices.
