About This Activity

Instructor: April Reinhart Is your student interested in learning how to make decorated cakes for family and friends? People are willing to pay quite a bit for personalized cakes and cupcakes and most themed cakes can be made using just a few basic skills and techniques! I have been decorating cakes for more than 10 years and thoroughly enjoy the process. I'd love to share my tips and tricks with your student. In this class we will be learning the basic fundamentals of cake decorating and practicing techniques using buttercream, fondant and gumpaste. We will also work with edible images, air brushing, learn how to mold figures from gumpaste and practice the newest trends in cake decorating. Students will build skills they can use for all types of decorating projects - from cupcakes to cakes for any occasion. Prerequisite: None Course Topics: Setting Yourself Up For Decorating Success Shaping, Crumb Coating and Icing Stacking a cake Buttercream - coloring, hombre effects, rosettes, etc) Buttercream - Piping and Borders (using different tips) Buttercream Flowers Fondant (coloring – solid color, marbling, tie dye and care) Fondant (covering a cake) Fondant (molds, textured rolling pins, embossing mats & cutters) Simple gumpaste flowers Edible Images (edible printer, different papers, applying to fondant) Air Brushing Modeling Figures New and trending cake techniques The price of the class includes all supplies throughout the school year along with a "Basic Decorator's Kit" (instructor will hand out during the first class). We will use these tools in class so the students will need to bring the kit with them each week and they will be able to keep these kits after the class is complete. Recommended Additional Supplies : Folder to keep class hand outs and an apron
