About This Activity

Science: We will utilize a curriculum to cover grade level NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards). Unit study will include a Space Unit; States and Properties of Matter; Ecosystems; Photosynthesis; Types of Energy. Weekly class time will introduce new concepts and include hands-on experiments to bring each lesson ‘alive’; homework will include reading, vocabulary and parent administered quizzes to reinforce lessons. Math: Concepts will be introduced and reviewed during weekly class time. Homework and quizzes will ensure concepts are understood and mastered, as well as providing on-going reinforcement for the entire year. History/Geography: The primary focus will be on learning about the history and geography of the State of Florida but will also incorporate overview concepts to allow for a meaningful understanding of how Florida fits into the United States; North America and the World in terms of historical events and geography. Hands-On activities and oral reports will give students the opportunity to learn how to prepare and deliver speeches, as well as overcome a fear of doing so - a valuable life lesson! Language Arts: The reading curriculum includes professional written, on-level passages and text-dependent questions that build in complexity each week, as more skills are introduced. The language curriculum will keep grammar and word study standards fresh throughout the year. In addition, book reading assignments will correspond with lessons from the history/geography curriculum, making the reading meaningful and reinforcing an understanding from both studies. Students will also learn how to read passages out loud; doing so improves memory of the ideas and teaches students how to use vocal tools to add emphasis and excitement to reading material. Cursive Handwriting: Students will learn to write and read cursive letters. COST INCLUDES CURRICULUM
