About This Activity

Club SciKidz’s Drone Piloting & Aerial Robotics is an immersive STEM.org accredited program that explores the intersection of aviation and robotics. Using the Tello Boost and specialized quad-rotors, campers delve into the mechanics of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) technology. Core Learning Objectives: Aviation Fundamentals: Campers master the "Big Four" of flight: Pitch, Yaw, Roll, and Thrust. They learn how atmospheric conditions and battery health affect aerial stability. Autonomous Mission Programming: Beyond the joystick, campers use block-based coding (and advanced Python for older groups) to program drones for "No-Pilot" missions, navigating complex 3D obstacle courses autonomously. Search & Rescue Simulations: Campers work in tactical teams to solve real-world scenarios, such as locating a "lost hiker" in a remote area or delivering emergency pharmaceuticals to a mock disaster zone. Hardware & Troubleshooting: Students learn the anatomy of a drone—from ESCs (Electronic Speed Controllers) and brushless motors to sensors like gyroscopes and barometers—allowing them to diagnose and fix flight issues in the field. Quick Facts for Busy Families Take-Home Tech: At most locations, campers take home their own hand-sized quadcopter at the end of the week to continue their flight training (check local site for details). Safety First: We strictly follow FAA-aligned safety protocols, teaching campers about flight zones, battery maintenance, and responsible drone usage. STEM.org Accredited: Our curriculum is built on professional aviation standards, ensuring the program is as educational as it is exhilarating. Flexible Hours: Most locations offer Pre-Camp (8:00 AM) and Post-Camp (until 5:30 PM) to support working schedules. Prepare for Takeoff Drone Piloting is consistently one of our fastest-selling camps due to the specialized equipment and high-action curriculum. Secure your child's spot in the flight squad today.
