About This Activity

Club SciKidz’s Junior Robot Engineer is a STEM.org accredited introductory course in mechanical and electrical engineering. The curriculum is specifically scaled for early elementary students, focusing on how Simple Machines combine to create the complex robots of the future. Core Learning Objectives: The Six Simple Machines: Using K’NEX®, campers master the fundamentals of levers, pulleys, wheels and axles, inclined planes, screws, and wedges. They learn how these components are the DNA of every robot ever built. Circuitry & Power Sources: Students explore the basics of electricity by building an RC Snap Rover. This "Mars-like" radio-controlled vehicle serves as a mobile laboratory for 23 different experiments, teaching campers how to complete circuits to trigger lights, sounds, and motion. Dynamic Robot Construction: Campers move into "Vibration Robotics," constructing their own Artbots (robots that draw) and Bristlebots (mini-robots made from toothbrush heads). These projects teach the relationship between motor vibration and autonomous movement. Mars Mission Simulation: Using their RC Rovers, campers simulate a planetary exploration mission, navigating obstacles and performing "field tests" that mirror real NASA rover operations. Quick Facts for Busy Families Incredible Take-Home Value: This camp has an extraordinary volume of supplies. Campers take home the robots they build, including their Artbots and Bristlebots, for continued engineering fun at home. STEM.org Accredited: Our curriculum meets rigorous national standards, ensuring your child’s summer fun translates into a head start in science and math. Expert Supervision: With small group sizes (typically 15–18 campers), our instructors provide the individual guidance needed for safe and successful circuit building. Working-Parent Friendly: Programs run Monday–Friday (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM), with Pre-Camp (8:00 AM) and Post-Camp (until 5:30 PM) options to fit your schedule. The Lab is Waiting
