Instructor(s): Sophia LaMontagne | Sam Levy Curriculum Overview: Project: “Clay Zoo” In this one-day hand-building workshop, students will explore the world of animals through clay. Each student will leave with their own handmade animal sculpture to proudly take home. Using simple techniques like pinching, coiling, and sculpting, they’ll bring their favorite creatures to life. Students will also have the opportunity to build their animal’s own world to explore! Skill-Building: Coil sculpting, pinchpot shaping, hand building Scratch and slip techniques 3D planning and problem solving Creative Exploration: Students rotate through three stations: 1 - Animal Creation and Pinch Pots: Creating an animal sculpture with a moving head. 2- Landscape building and Slabs: Imagining habitats and bringing them to life using a combination of coil and slab techniques. 3- Painting Party: Students will paint their animals, practicing animal patterns and brush control on a 3D surface. Reflection & Sharing: Students circle up and share their favorite piece and set up their section of the clay “Laurence Zoo.” The day ends with a quick “Gallery Walk” where they display their work for classmates to see and celebrate.
