About This Activity
Coaches: Jay Stallings, Robert Romano & Team This focused 90-minute training session challenges experienced players to sharpen advanced tactics, strengthen strategic depth, and prepare for high-level competitive play in a rigorous yet supportive environment. Led by Coach Jay, recipient of the 2025 Excellence in Chess Instruction Award from the official governing body of chess in the U.S., along with his expert coaching team, students receive high-level instruction, mentorship, and personalized feedback throughout the program. 3:00–3:25 PM – Advanced Strategy Block Students engage in intensive, single-theme deep dives exploring complex tactics, positional play, calculation skills, and high-level problem-solving scenarios. 3:30–4:30 PM – Inter-School Online Competition Participants compete weekly against a different school using Rookly, a secure and trusted scholastic chess platform designed for competitive play. Students also practice responsible technology use and sportsmanship. Rookly provides a safe, school-monitored environment: - iPads with limited access - Chat features restricted to the adult proctor - Structured, supervised match play Who Should Enroll? This class is best suited for students who: - Demonstrate strong foundational knowledge of chess - Are comfortable with competitive match play - Are eager to refine advanced strategy and tactics - Thrive in a focused, high-expectation learning environment Class size is intentionally limited to ensure a high-quality, personalized training experience.
