About This Activity

Instructors: Mark Tennyson and Marissa Shaevel Get ready for a fun and educational camp focused on the core skills students need for FIRST LEGO League (FLL). Students will build and refine a LEGO robot, practice reliable driving, explore sensors, and learn how to plan efficient mission runs. We’ll also build the official mission models together and brainstorm Innovation Project ideas to jumpstart research and problem-solving. The official FLL season launch event will take place during the same week as camp, making this a great opportunity to prepare for the FLL season! Not sure if your child is ready for the full robotics team commitment? This camp is also a great way to try out FLL, experience what practices feel like, and see if joining a competition team is the right fit. Beginners welcome! Topics by Day Monday — SPIKE Essential Engineering Lab Students begin with accessible LEGO engineering challenges focused on building simple mechanisms, coding movement, testing ideas, and making improvements. Tuesday — BIOGLOW Season Launch Day Students explore the official BIOGLOW season theme, learn about the challenge, begin building mission models, and brainstorm early innovation ideas connected to the season. Wednesday — SPIKE Prime / Sandman Robot Lab Students work with the SPIKE Prime Sandman robot to practice reliable driving, turning, alignment, testing routines, and mission-style robot challenges. Thursday — LEGO CS & AI Lab Students explore computer science and AI concepts through inputs, decisions, outputs, evidence, and problem-solving activities connected to BIOGLOW. Friday — EV3 Pybricks Rover Lab Students use EV3 rovers programmed with Pybricks on MacBooks to practice rover movement, sensor-based behaviors, debugging, and reliability testing.
