About This Activity
We will be studying Aesop’s fables to use our imaginations to create our own fables. Students will learn to create an outline of their idea to focus on a specific topic, write their fables and then go back to edit and finalize. At the end of the semester students will be invited to read and present their fables to the class. This is an enrichment course to encourage creative writing and will not include any required homework. *Please choose the writing course that best fits your child's ability levels and not necessarily their age or grade. In the Fall we will work towards mastering: *Write demonstrating an effective use of techniques such as descriptions and transitional words & phrases. *Write using multiple sources, elaboration, and organizational structure. *Context clues, figurative language, word relationships, reference materials, and background knowledge to determine the meaning of multiple-meaning, unknown words & phrases. *Use subject-verb agreement with clauses & phrases. *Complete sentences, recognizing & correcting inappropriate fragments and run-ons. *Conjunctions. *Fourth Grade level Spelling & Vocabulary Words Bio: Originally from Ohio and with a degree in Elem. Education from Ohio Univ., I've called Florida home for the past 18 years. My first ten years were spent teaching elem. school in Pinellas Cty. I am a wife to an adventure loving entrepreneur and mother to 2 spunky girls, 2 poodles and 3 cats. Our family is in our 4th year of homeschooling and our 3rd as members of HEAT. I'm a firm believer that we, as parents, are blessed to be our children's first teachers and that learning happens all day, every day. I'm excited to be jumping back into teaching here at HEAT to support other homeschooling families on this wonderful journey where God has called us.
