Kingdom & Country: Faithful Citizenship in a Divided Age In this dynamic high school course, students step into the headlines and beyond them. Through weekly analysis of current events, structured debates, and thoughtful research, we explore politics not as partisans—but as disciples seeking truth, justice, and wisdom. Students will learn how government works, evaluate media sources, practice civil discourse, and develop persuasive speaking skills. More importantly, they will wrestle with deeper questions: • How does a Christian think about power and leadership? • What does Scripture say about justice, authority, and citizenship? • How do we disagree without dehumanizing? • Where should allegiance ultimately rest—party or King? Each unit integrates biblical principles with constitutional foundations, policy discussions, and contemporary cultural issues. Students will participate in formal debates, mock press briefings, and policy simulations—learning to speak with conviction, clarity, and grace. This class doesn’t tell students what to think. It teaches them how to think faithfully. Companion Book: How Should We Then Live? by Francis Schaeffer Teacher Bio: My name is Amy Loesch and I have been teaching several high school level courses since 2019. I graduated in 2009 with a BA in Religious Education and have taken a significant amount of graduate level courses for teaching and secondary English. My philosophy is that each student learns in his or her own way, and that learning should be FUN and relevant.
