About This Activity
Help your middle schooler become a stronger, more confident speller! This class puts spelling at the center, with students learning how to recognize patterns, break down challenging words, and understand the Latin and Greek roots that help determine how words are spelled. Students will build their vocabulary along the way while developing practical spelling skills they can use across all of their classes. The course also provides a strong foundation for future SAT and standardized test preparation, where vocabulary and accurate spelling matter. Rather than simply memorizing lists, students will learn the “why” behind words so they can tackle unfamiliar words with greater confidence. For supplies, Kids will need to have a folder, paper, and pencil for every class. BIO: Lauren Cliff is a 2nd-year teacher with HEAT, bringing a strong background in humanities, English literature, and U.S. history into everything she teaches. With over 20 years of customer service experience, she leads with patience, empathy, and real-world grit. She’s a proud mom of three, happily married, and in her fourth year of homeschooling her own kids—proof that teaching doesn’t stop when the school day ends.
