About This Activity
Super Spellers: An Orton Gillingham Based Spelling Curriculum with Mini Spelling Bee's and games. An elementary Formal spelling class designed for students who are ready to move beyond basic phonics and begin learning spelling rules, patterns, and word structure. Students will learn spelling rules and patterns and practice spelling words that follow each rule. Instead of memorizing random lists, we’ll focus on why words are spelled the way they are. Lessons will include guided instruction, Dictation, partner practice, games, and hands-on activities The class would focus on: Learning spelling rules and Phonetic patterns Introduce or reinforce concepts using visual supports that make spelling patterns easier for students to understand and remember. Understanding the meaning of words Exploring root words, prefixes, and suffixes Learning and practicing homophones Weekly spelling practice and Bonus challenge Words for Older students. Fun mini spelling bees as a class- Instead of traditional spelling tests, we’ll hold mini spelling bees and play spelling games to assess progress. Weekly take-home spelling lists for extra practice at home (Home practice sheets will be given and is important for this class to be successful.) This class is ideal for students who: Know all letter names and sounds, have basic phonics skills, can read and write simple words independently, Are ready for more advanced spelling instruction. packed with research-based Orton Gillingham lessons & activities to help students master phonics, spelling rules, and decoding skills. Hi! I’m Kelly Krutz, and I’m thrilled to be teaching again this year. I’ve been homeschooling for Seven years and have been part of the Tampa Bay HEAT community for five years. Teaching is something I truly love, and I enjoy creating hands-on, engaging lessons that make learning exciting and memorable.
