About This Activity
Join Ms. Mary Mac on a hula hoop dance adventure this semester! This beginner hoop dance class starts with the essentials of hula hoop movement and then adds on complementary dance moves, ultimately leading to a high-energy, expressive, and unique dance. Students are guided to organically find their own creative physical expression with the use of a fun, colorful prop during this class! Hoop dance, by its nature, also offers lessons in persistence, personal growth, and confidence, all of which will be gently incorporated into our weekly sessions. Students are welcome to purchase their own hula hoops before the class begins. There are a variety of high quality dance hoops available online that can be custom made for the student's height and experience level. However, Mary will have a variety of hoops available that the students can get familiar with before deciding what diameter and weight they're most comfortable with. Teacher Bio: Mary McKenzie is a homeschooling mom, church pastor, home baker, pharmacy tech in training, tree enthusiast, and hula hooper! A Jill-Of-All-Trades. She has been hoop dancing for over fifteen years; she picked up a hula hoop in 2010 as a way to work on increasing her balance and coordination and never looked back.
