Theatre Production & Design Behind the Scenes: Where Theatre Comes to Life Ever wonder what happens behind the curtain? In Theatre Production & Design, students discover how a director’s or designer’s creative vision becomes reality through hands-on experience with the visual, mechanical, technical, and audio elements that bring a show to life. Students will have the opportunity to work behind the scenes of the spring production of Beauty and the Beast, gaining first-hand experience with the process of creating and supporting a live theatre production. Students will also compare the film and stage versions and explore how directors and designers make artistic choices that shape what an audience sees and hears. Students performing in the production will gain a deeper appreciation for the stage by understanding what happens behind the curtain, while students who are not performing can participate as stagehands and members of the production crew. Students will explore set design and construction, props, lighting, sound, stage operations, makeup, special effects, and costuming, learning how these elements work together to create characters, environments, and memorable theatrical experiences. Theatre is a team effort. Students will learn to communicate, collaborate, solve problems, take responsibility, and work together as a production team. Come behind the scenes and discover how theatre really comes to life!
