This course introduces elementary students to basic chemistry concepts through exploration, observation, and hands-on learning. Students will discover what matter is made of by learning about atoms, simple molecules & elements, and how substances can change when they are mixed or heated. Through engaging experiments, simple models, and guided discussions, students will build curiosity and begin using age-appropriate scientific vocabulary. Lessons focus on real-world connections—helping students see how chemistry is part of their everyday lives—while encouraging questions, problem-solving, and critical thinking. **This class is designed to build a strong foundation for future science learning and will be taught at a 2nd–3rd grade level, with activities adapted to support hands-on, interactive learning. Students should be able to independently copy vocabulary words from the board during class and complete simple, direction-based coloring activities of models as part of their learning. Hi! I’m Kelly Krutz, and I’m thrilled to be teaching again for my 4th year. I’ve been homeschooling my two boys for seven years and have been part of the Tampa Bay HEAT community for five years. Teaching is something I truly love, and I enjoy creating hands-on, engaging lessons that make learning exciting and memorable.
