Week 2: Junior Scientist Driving Question What do scientists do, and how can we safely explore the world using experiments and technology like AI? Program Description Step into the lab coat of a junior scientist! In this curiosity-driven week of discovery, campers will explore what it means to be a real scientist—asking big questions, testing ideas, and learning how to investigate the world around them. Through hands-on experiments, they’ll practice basic lab safety, learn how to design simple tests, and follow the scientific method to make sense of their observations. Campers will also get a playful introduction to how scientists use AI tools for research and discovery—while also learning why it's important to think critically about the limits and responsibilities that come with using technology. It’s a perfect blend of wonder, logic, and creativity! Core Focus What scientists do and how they think Basic lab safety and experiment setup The scientific method and why it matters Designing fair tests and making predictions Age-appropriate AI in science (e.g. patterns, data collection) Limitations of AI: why human thinking still matters Observation, recording, and critical thinking skills
