Week 3: Under the Sea Driving Question How can we learn from the ocean and use science, creativity, and technology to protect its amazing life? Program Description Grab your snorkel (and your imagination!) and dive into discovery—without ever leaving the classroom. In this hands-on indoor STEAM adventure, campers become junior marine scientists as they explore the wonders of ocean life through tidepool simulations, model building, and creative experiments. They’ll learn how sea creatures adapt to their environments, investigate real-world ocean challenges like pollution and rising temperatures, and practice scientific skills like observing, predicting, and experimenting. Campers will also explore how scientists use AI and robotics to study and protect the ocean, using age-appropriate coding tools to simulate underwater rovers and cleanup bots. It’s a week of learning, problem-solving, and protecting our blue planet—one splash at a time. Core Focus Tidepools and marine animal adaptations Environmental science: pollution, saltwater buoyancy, beach erosion (via simulations) Scientific method and basic experiment design Environmental stewardship and sustainability Introduction to robotics in marine science (e.g. robot rovers, cleanup bots using Botley & Cubetto) Recycled-material STEAM engineering challenges Systems thinking: how human actions impact ocean ecosystems
