About This Activity
Who: Volunteers must be between the ages of 10-40 years old and will follow/model directions/activities and actively engage with participants with autism. Volunteers ages 10-13 can volunteer IF an "adult" (responsible party) remains on campus and responsible for the volunteer underage (does not have to participate but can if they want). Training is not required, but volunteers are expected to behave maturely and responsibly. Volunteers need not be proficient in the sport. A volunteer's primary purpose is social engagement and modeling. What: Co-ed Basketball Our coaches and staff will use their expertise, modeling, and visuals to teach skills and understanding of the game. We hope to increase our athlete’s physical endurance, coordination, attention, and social interaction through team play. Who: participants with autism who are between 11 to 14 years old Where: FACT Autism Resource Center 3509 Virginia Beach Blvd Virginia Beach, VA 23452 3rd Session Middle Ballers- 12:30-1:30pm (Ages 11 - 14) Why: Our goal is for every child to walk out of the gym with a smile on their face, but we also hope to increase our athlete’s physical endurance, coordination, attention, and social interaction through team play.
