About This Activity
What: GonnawannaBOWLagin’ GonnawannaBOWLagin' is a peer handicap-bowling league that takes place in the fall and winter and is designed for students with ASD 8 or older who want to be part of a team. This is an actual league and players will receive their handicap after averaging their first 2 games. It is important to try and be there every week as your teammates will be there waiting for you! Who: anyone who has autism who is 8 or older Prior bowling experience is not necessary- all ability levels are welcome, however FACT sports programs are recommended for students with receptive language skills enough to follow simple single step directions and attempt to imitate actions. Bowling is staffed on a 1:4/5 ratio (1 staff per lane of 4 or 5 participants). Parents are required to stay should their participant need assistance with toileting or require more direct supervision to be successful with following directions and waiting their turn to bowl (can sometimes be length down time periods as other peers bowl).Parents are welcome to stay and cheer on their bowlers this season but please remain on the carpeted area. Where: Pinboys At the Beach 1577 Laskin Rd Suite 100 Virginia Beach, VA 23451 When: Sunday's September 7- November 23, 2024 from 3:00-5:00pm. 5:00 is a hard stop time but some bowlers will end earlier depending on their individual lane. The faster they bowl the faster they finish their 2 games and can return equipment-most of the time our bowlers are done around 4:30ish. Cost: There is a one-time registration fee of $150 for all 10 weeks Discounts available for qualifying families- Payment plans are available. Tuition includes: two games per week, rental shoes each week, rental ball each week, and an end of season party. Why: Our goal is for every child to walk off the alley with a smile on their face, but we also hope to increase our athlete’s physical endurance, coordination, attention, and social interaction through team play.
