Who Can Volunteer?: FACT employs a knowledgeable, compassionate staff that works on a 1:1 ratio with campers with ASD, ensuring campers are supported at all times. Each camper/staff duo is paired with a peer buddy volunteer who models expected behavior, provides encouragement, and supports a fun, positive camp environment for their new friend with ASD. Volunteers are expected to follow staff direction, maintain appropriate behavior, and serve as a positive role model at all times. Volunteer participation is a privilege. Volunteers who are unable to meet expectations may be asked to leave camp at any time. Volunteers may sign up for up to three weeks. If you would like to volunteer for more than three weeks, please call the office for approval at (757) 422-2040. Volunteer Schedule: These times are strict as volunteers need to be in place and ready to receive and send off their campers with their staff Arrival Time: 8:20-8:25 AM (before campers arrive) Dismissal Time: 3:20-3:25 PM (after all campers have been picked up) What is Camp: Camp GonnawannaGOagin’! is a fun-filled, action-packed day camp in Virginia Beach for individuals ages 6 and up with a primary diagnosis of autism. Camp offers everything a typical day camp would offer: swimming, field trips, and friendship! We firmly believe that people with autism are people first and all are deserving of a friend-you, the volunteer! The volunteer MUST participate (or be able to not participate) with their camper at ALL times throughout the day. Ex. if the camper prefers swimming in the wave pool at ocean breeze for the whole time, the volunteer is expected to be a friend and stay in the wave pool the whole time & not demand to ride rides or do something different that peeks their interest (not their campers).
