Baylor DECATS is a 3 week program beginning Monday, June 3rd and ending Friday, June 21st, 2024. Our program hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. There will be five, 55 minute classes per day, including Perspectives Core Curriculum and Manners to Morals Core Curriculum, two snack breaks (incorporated into transition time) and a 75 minute lunch and recreation break. Each day will begin with a morning assembly used for announcements, celebrations, and focus for the day. Each day will end with an afternoon assembly where Scholars reflect on their learning, Mentors recognize Scholars, and share reminders for the following day. Scholars, Mentors, and teaching assistants will bring their lunches Monday through Friday. Scholars and Mentors will have the option to participate in recreation time after lunch, which includes sports related games, as well as relaxed socializing. All areas are well supervised by staff members. This lunch and recreation time allows Scholars additional time to make new friends who might not be in their current schedule. Perspectives is our required 1st course period. Mentors conduct Perspectives courses utilize the seven multiple intelligences theorized by Howard Gardner, providing pertinent information on giftedness to Scholars. Manners to Morals is our second required course and will start at the same base level regardless of students' ages. Scholars will choose three different electives for their 2nd, 3rd, and 5th period courses.
