About This Activity

If objects could talk, they’d probably say, “Let me be!” In this fun follow-up to Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, students dive deeper into Newton’s First Law—also known as the Law of Inertia. Why does your backpack stay put until you pick it up? Why do you lurch forward when the car suddenly stops? It’s all about inertia, the “lazy” tendency of objects to resist changes in motion. Through hands-on activities, real-world examples, and clever design challenges, students will explore how mass, motion, and force work together. They’ll test their own inventions, investigate inertia in sports and space, and learn why understanding this law is key to mastering motion. Science has never been so stubborn—or so much fun!
