Empowered Gymnastics will teach children with physical and development disabilities, delays, or differences the basics of gymnastics. We will work to grow the students' strength and comfort levels and focus on starting positions and basic skills. Each class we will start with a warm up, then move to stretching, structured activities, and a game or group play at the end.
Goals: To increase strength, improve coordination, and develop a basic knowledge of gymnastics
Essential Eligibility: Program Levels 1-2. No assistance needed with level surfaces. May use assistive device (manual wheelchair, canes, walker, crutches, etc.). Can maintain their own personal hygiene with verbal cues. Can follow single or two-step instructions. Able to convey feelings, desires and needs with picture cues or communication device. Demonstrates age-appropriate social and emotional skills in managing personal boundaries, relationships, communication, stress, and conflict with some assistance. Will stay with group with the help of verbal prompts. Can manage the sensory stimulation of a frequently large, loud, and energetic group environment with some assistance.
If hands-on assistance with toileting and personal hygiene is needed during program hours, the parent/guardian/caregiver is responsible for providing assistance.
Must be able to actively participate in a group with an instructor/participant ratio of 1:8.
