About This Activity
Description
Making music together is the heart of Strings Camp. Chamber music, orchestra sessions, master classes, and solo recitals all make Strings Camp a rich learning and social experience. With ample attention from experienced, empathetic faculty and support from teen mentors who are advanced players, the Strings Camp experience is enriched by afternoon presentations from related creative disciplines. Past camps have included tango performers, a theater coach, and a drum circle. All campers have the opportunity to join a small ensemble, and we’ll all perform in the final concert on Friday.
A placement audition before enrolling is required for all students, including Levine students and those who have attended in the past. The placement audition helps us make repertoire choices and ensemble assignments. Without an audition, we cannot guarantee group and repertoire assignments will be the best fit. Friendly in-person placement auditions at our DC Campus: NW and over Zoom will be held throughout the spring. Please use this link to request a placement audition: https://levine.formstack.com/forms/stringscamp2024
Please note: to participate, campers must have one year or more of private study and read at the Bach Minuet level. Campers with two years or more of school orchestra experience and strong technical and reading skills may also be accepted. Previous ensemble experience is not necessary. Strings Camp fosters an engaging atmosphere in which experienced students are challenged. Campers new to chamber music will receive an excellent introduction.
Sheet music will be sent out in early July so campers can prepare their music in advance. Please be sure to practice to make our rehearsals even more fun.
