About This Activity

This MANDATORY, fun one-week summer intensive is designed to introduce and prepare incoming first year students for the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Theatre Department’s training program. It is a rigorous program, taught by the theatre department’s faculty that will introduce the student to Ellington’s Theatre Curriculum. The program will conclude with a showcase of the student’s work. In addition to the program that runs June 29-July 3, incoming students will also do an all-day field trip day where students will participate in workshops led by esteemed DC artists, visit museums and theatres, and learn more about the history of Duke Ellington and theatre in Washington DC. THIS PROGRAM IS ONLY FOR INCOMING STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED INTO THE DUKE ELLINGTON THEATRE DEPARTMENT AND WILL ENTER DUKE ELLINGTON SCHOOL OF THE ARTS IN THE FALL OF 2026.
