Joining the Junior Native Youth Olympics (JNYO) team is an exciting opportunity for students in grades 1-6! This program emphasizes fun, physical activity, and the development of friendships, offering team practices on Tuesdays 4-5pm and/or Fridays 3-4pm. For those students specifically in grades 3rd-5th, there's a chance to compete in various traditional Alaska Native sports at a district and state competition this coming February. Joining the JNYO team not only promotes physical fitness but also fosters a sense of community among participants. It's a perfect way for youths to come together, learn about cultural traditions, and create lasting friendships while having a great time! Students will learn agility, balance, and concentration through traditional games like Scissor Broad Jump, Alaska High Kick, Inuit/Eskimo Stick Pull, One-foot High Kick, Two-foot High Kick, Arm Pull, Wrist Carry, Kneel Jump, and Seal Hop. For more information, contact the facilitator, MaryCatherine Harmon at Fontenotmc@gmail.com. $30/semester.
