Dip your toes into herbalism and the unique plants of Alaska! Students will learn the beginning fundamentals of herbalism and be introduced to useful Alaskan plants and herbs. We'll explore the traditional and practical uses of local medicinal plants while learning about ethical foraging, herbal safety, and the basics of creating natural remedies. Throughout the course, students will make and take home a variety of herbal preparations, including soothing salves, nourishing herbal teas, oxymels (herbal vinegar and honey extracts), infused oils, and other simple herbal creations. Whether students are new to herbalism or simply curious about the natural world, this class offers a fun, engaging introduction to the art and science of working with plants. $50 deducted from allotment.
