About This Activity
Description
Sushi is fun to make, and it’s not just raw fish; it’s a way of preparing healthy food. (In this class, no raw fish or shellfish will be used.) Youth will first learn to prepare dashi (seaweed stock) for Miso Soup, and then learn sushi techniques and ingredients and get to enjoy their delicious handmade sushi! Participants will make the traditional Japanese shari rice used for rolling sushi, then use it to make traditional and not-so-traditional rolls. On the menu: Miso Soup; Shari Rice; Spicy Tuna Rolls; California Rolls; Wisconsin Rolls; and Inside-Out Rolls; as well as the customary sushi accompaniments of pickled ginger (gari), wasabi, and soy sauce. Youth will also prepare yummy Sesame cookies for dessert. (Vegetarian-Optional)
