Beginning Pottery: Handbuilding Fundamentals – 6-Week Course Discover the joy of working with clay in this beginner-friendly, six-week pottery course! No prior experience is required. Students will learn the fundamentals of handbuilding while creating a variety of functional and decorative ceramic pieces. Throughout the course, students will learn three essential handbuilding techniques: slab, pinch, and coil. Guided projects will include a textured tray or platter, a lidded treasure box or decorative bowl, a vase or planter, and a handmade mug with a matching snack plate. Students will also explore clay preparation, texture and surface decoration, proper joining techniques, glazing, and finishing. The course concludes with a group critique and presentation of finished artwork. By the end of the six weeks, students will have created four finished handbuilt ceramic pieces and gained the skills and confidence to continue exploring pottery. No prior pottery experience is required.
