About This Activity
Get ready to build like never before! In this hands-on, imagination-fueled class, young inventors will use LEGO bricks to create amazing chain reaction machines — think dominoes meets Rube Goldberg! With ramps, levers, pulleys, and lots of surprising twists, each week we’ll build wacky contraptions that do simple things in the most over-the-top ways. Inspired by the awesome LEGO Chain Reactions book, students will explore how motion, cause-and-effect, and creative engineering come together to make magic (and a little mayhem!). From launching marbles to ringing bells and popping balloons, we’ll experiment, test, redesign, and laugh a lot along the way. No prior LEGO expertise needed — just bring your curiosity, creativity, and sense of adventure. Let’s turn ordinary bricks into extraordinary machines! Grades: K–5 Skills We’ll Explore: Problem-solving, teamwork, basic physics, creative design, trial and error (and trying again!) Materials Needed: LEGOs and instructions will be provided but students (and parents!) are encouraged to bring in their own LEGO bricks to expand creative options, along with a dash of imagination!
