About This Activity
Ever wondered how to turn your biggest ideas into powerful words? The Mic is Yours is a welcoming space for students in Grades 6–8 to explore every side of creative writing. Whether your passion is crafting deep poetry, writing the next hit country song, spinning a "flash fiction" story, or even preparing a hilarious speech for the next family gathering, this camp will provide the spark you need. Throughout the week, we will explore the power of vivid imagery, the secrets of rhythm and rhyme, and how to use humour to truly connect with your audience. You’ll also pick up professional tips for memorization and performing your work aloud with confidence. By the end of the week, you’ll have at least one signature piece of writing—and likely a whole portfolio—ready to share with your people! Please bring along the stories, songs, speeches, or poems you already know and love to use as your creative fuel. This is a half-day program.
