The goal of this program is simple: have fun and learn wrestling! Designed for grassroots to novice-level athletes, this program welcomes youth of any experience - whether you've never stepped on a mat before or already have some wrestling background. Led by Payten Smith a former Team Canada athlete, and Cruz Velasquez, a current wrestler training for the 2028 Olympics and SFU alumnus, campers will be guided by a dynamic duo with decades of combined experience and a passion for teaching. Payten wrestled across Canada and North America with over 10 years of competitive experience, while Cruz brings 18 years of wrestling expertise and an inspiring drive to compete at the highest level. Together, they create a safe, fun, and engaging environment where every camper develops physical literacy, body awareness, and confidence. You will participate in wrestling-based warm-ups, technique drills rooted in wrestling, martial arts, and self-defence, and engaging wrestling games. You will also be introduced to live wrestling scenarios, practicing skills in guided, safe situations where instructors carefully demonstrate what to do and how to do it. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn refereeing and coaching fundamentals, gaining insight into leadership and sportsmanship. Overall, this camp is active, energetic, and designed to ensure every participant leaves stronger, more confident, and with a love for wrestling. This is a half-day program.
