Students learn that Earth’s surface is sculpted into different kinds of landforms, and contains many types of water bodies. They consider how landforms and bodies of water are influenced by climate through a study of Connecticut’s major geographic regions. Imagining themselves in an uncharted land, students explore the landforms and bodies of water on the Flanders campus and show their shapes and connections by creating their own maps. Using a compass, binoculars, paper and pencil, their own observations, imaginations, and teamwork, they develop a hands-on appreciation of the land and water around them. Using the maps they have created, students introduce the new land they have charted in a final presentation.
