Ceramics: Handbuilding Drinking Vessels (8 sessions) Grades 3-5 | Beginner Instructor: Hannah Oas Fridays, March 20 – May 8 4:30pm – 6:00pm This is a great introductory course to make a functional ceramic piece that can be used daily and enjoyed! Students will be instructed in the slab method of hand building to create two drinking vessels. The slab construction method in pottery is a quick way to create sophisticated and precise shapes. Emphasis will be placed on clean lines, form and connections points of the piece. The goal is to have students create two drinking vessels, one with a handle and one without. This course will demonstrate different methods for creating a handle, and surface decoration will be encouraged on both pieces. This will be explored through handbuilt additions or the use of tools to carve on the piece. Students will learn proper glazing techniques toward the end of the course, so that they may take their wonderful, finished pieces home!
