About This Activity
Description
Come join us for a kids fishing event sponsored by Friends of Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge and US Fish and Wildlife Service. From 10 am to noon marine scientists and wildlife biologists will demonstrate sampling techniques for bait fish using a beach seine, bottom organisms using sediment grabs, and zooplankton using a fine mesh net. Participants can help identify the fish species and observe the bottom and plankton species through microscopes and magnifying lenses. For 12 noon to 2 pm kids can try their luck at fishing off a pier to see who can catch the most perch and spot. Rods and bait will be provided. Hot dogs, drinks and snacks will also be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring sunscreen and bug spray.
Each day the number of participants will be limited to 20. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult and wear their own life vests while fishing off the pier.
