A brand-new partnership with North Yarmouth Academy Summer Programs and Portland Yacht Club just minutes away from the NYA campus, Adventure Sailing is a learn-to-sail camp where sailors will be able to both safely ride along, and also take part in hands-on sailing! This unique one-week course is on PYC’s Colgate 26 Sailboats, and no sailing experience is necessary. The course teaches basic seamanship and sailing; instruction includes rigging, steering, sail trim, points-of-sail, tacking, jibbing, docking, knots, parts of the boat, anchoring, and basic navigation. Students will learn general boating safety and teamwork and communication between crew is emphasized. Each day will be a new and exciting opportunity for the sailors to explore Casco Bay, so be prepared for a little bit of everything; distance racing, match racing, navigation, island exploration, and more. Coast guard approved PFD's are required for participation. Campers will be dropped off and picked up at NYA's Travis Roy Ice arena. The bus will leave NYA at 8:30 and will return between 4:15 and 4:30 p.m. Campers should wear/ pack: layers appropriate for the weather, hat, swimsuit, rain gear, warms, water shoes or sandals (no flip flops), sunscreen, lunch and snacks.
