About This Activity

Description

We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Thursday, July 1, 2021.

Ages 12+.

Spirit League is a unifying, safe and inclusive place for Special Needs teens and young adults to play basketball, get physically active and make new friends. Our program stands for acceptance, teamwork, skill development and fun. Spirit League will always celebrate diversity, sportsmanship and the opportunity to be a beacon of hope for all.

With state-wide restrictions and guidelines beginning to ease, we are offering a hybrid Spirit League season again May 20- July 1! Practices will take place in-person outdoors and/or via Zoom (link will be sent the week of the first practice) Thursdays from 5:45-6:45pm May 20-July 1. The seven practices will be split between Apex and Wake Forest (four in Apex & three in WF). We understand that not everyone is ready to resume in-person practices, so we will still broadcast outdoor practices over Zoom for those who would like to continue participating remotely. Spirit League coaches and volunteers will continue running practices in the same format in-person as they have been over Zoom with stretching, exercise, and basketball skills.

For those who choose to participate in-person: players, coaches, volunteers, etc. will be required to wear a face covering throughout practice. Players will remain physically distanced from one another using spot markers and will practice skills individually. We will not resume skills or drills that involve close contact to one another such as scrimmaging, partner passing drills, etc. Players can bring their own basketball from home to use, or we will have basketballs on-site that players can use for practice. We are asking that parents either drop players off or remain in their car during practices to ensure social distancing and max numbers set by executive orders is adhered to.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact Allie Prelaske at allie.prelaske@apexnc.org. Please wear gym clothes, athletic shoes and have a water bottle near you. Limited to 25 participants. Instructor: Spirit League Basketball Volunteers and Apex and Wake Forest staff.
