About This Activity

Dates: Jan 10- Mar 14 (10 sessions) Tuesdays, 4-5:30 PM Join this class and improve your drawing skills while exploring your creative voice! In this drawing course, teens will learn and build upon the fundamentals of drawing using both traditional and contemporary techniques. We will work with the definition of drawing as a method of mark-making on a surface and learn all of the things drawing has meant and can mean together. This course will cover the tenets of drawing in a variety of materials and mediums where teens will hone their skills such as observation, linear perspective, contour line, reductive drawing, and drawing from memory, among others. By the end of the course, teens will have key drawing skills and techniques in their pockets and will be able to appreciate a wide range of drawing styles in contemporary art. All levels are welcome. Differentiated instruction is provided to meet each student’s individual interests, needs, and strengths. Instructor Bio: Ali Vaughan is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Bay Area who works between sculpture and drawing. Her work investigates the confluence of geology, the body, and the complicated intersections of memory and family history. She has exhibited work at the de Young Museum, the Sebastopol Center for the Arts, the Coulter Gallery, West Magazine, and the Stanford Art Gallery. She was a metal arts resident at the Steel Yard in Providence, RI, and most recently a resident at Radio28 Creative Studios in Mexico City. Ali received was a dual major and received her BA in Art Practice (with honors) and Art History at Stanford University. In her teaching, she believes that artmaking can foster resilience, focus, investigation, and self-reflection, and is interested in allowing students to explore various mediums as means of self-expression, including drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture.
