About This Activity

We will learn about local legends who have made a difference in Pittsburgh and beyond, from Roberto Clemente to Mr. Rogers to Rachel Carson to August Wilson. We will also talk about our own hometown heroes - those family members, mentors, teachers, coaches and neighbors who become larger than life in our eyes through kindness, courage, leadership and giving back to our community. We’ll even perform a community service project of our own! Community Service Project - Being a Hero in Your Hometown Art- Make a comic book STEM- Parachute race Literacy- Black Heroes, Fearless Trailblazers, Have You Thanked an Inventor Today? Movies: Wonder Woman, Black Panther, Jimmy Neutron Example Field Trips: Service Projects around town, Roberto Clemente Museum, Heinz History Center
