The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks with the West Howard Warhawks, Inc. will offer a youth cheer program this fall. In addition to supporting the football players, the goal of this program is to promote fun and to learn cheerleading basics by teaching techniques that emphasize safety. The squad will sideline cheer Warhawk Football games participate in the Mid-Maryland Youth Cheerleading Competition in mid-November. Practice will be at The Gary J. Arthur Community Center or Bushy Park Elementary School starting at 6 PM and details will be provided in the welcome letter. Games are on Friday evenings or Saturdays and will require travel. Rescheduled games may be any night of the week. Practices are M-F, starting week of August 12, 2024. Practices will be three days a week when Howard County Public Schools begin. The season will run until mid-November or longer if the football teams make playoffs. Each squad member is issued a skirt, vest top and poms. Players must provide crop top, bloomers, hair ribbon and shoes and socks. All participants must have a photo ID from the MVA or MMYFCL on the first day of practice. REFUND POLICY: A $29 administrative fee applies to all refund requests made prior to July 19. A 50% administrative fee applies to requests made July 19-August 26. No refunds after August 26th. EQUIPMENT: Each athlete will be issued a uniform. A $250 deposit check will be required at uniform checkout. Each athlete must provide: bloomers, bodysuit, shoes, and hair bow for an additional cost. Volunteers are needed for coaching, assistant coaching, web site assistance, team admin, and other committees. Prompt drop off and pickup of child/children at recreational programs is mandatory.
