Description
The purpose of this course is to prepare instructors to teach people to swim and to help them be safe when they are in, on, or around water. The American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program covers skills and knowledge in a logical progression for aquatic skill development. As participants develop these skills, they will become safer and better swimmers. This course includes the American Red Cross Fundamentals of Instructor Training and the Water Safety Instructor Training. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be certified as American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors.
COURSE PREREQUISITES:
To enroll in this course, participants must be at least 15 years of age before the last scheduled class session. Please bring proof of age on the first day (drivers license, state identification, birth certificate, or passport. To participate you must be able to demonstrate the following skills: swim front crawl 25 yards, back crawl 25 yards, breaststroke 25 yards, elementary backstroke 25 yards, sidestroke 25 yards, butterfly 15 yards, maintain a position on back for 1 minute (fin or scull), and tread water for 1 minute.
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
All materials are included in the cost of this course and available online via participants Red Cross account.
COURSE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS:
- 100% attendance (no exceptions)
- Participation in all class exercises and activities
- Satisfactory completion of all written and practical assignments.
