This course will teach water safety and introduce participants to the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard; however, this course will not certify anyone to be a lifeguard. It will build a foundation, knowledge, attitudes and skills in preparation for the Lifeguarding course. The practice sessions will require some strenuous activity. To participate you must be at least 12 years old and be able to perform the following skills: Tread water for 1 minute; swim 25 yds/m front crawl stroke; swim 25 yds/m breaststroke; jump/step into deep water from the side and totally submerge, reach the surface, turn and return to the wall. After the initial training, you will be assigned to an indoor or outdoor pool for the summer.
Preparation and Practice in order to successfully pass pre-requisite skills needed to take a class. When ready a participant may also requested to be observed to pass the requirements for a class, and be able to receive information about taking a Lifeguard Certification Class.
