We recommend sailors over 110 lbs, or over 5 ft tall start with this class. Sailors will learn the basics in two-person boats. Sailors get the opportunity to build skills on their own in boats designed for kids. Participants should be comfortable in and around the water. Please note all sailors at this level complete a capsize (tip over) recovery test the first day of camp. This is for safety purposes, and will be coached and supported by staff. Boats used at each site are: Club 420 (TYC Wollochet Bay) and FJ (West Shore Marina) Two participants will sail together in close proximity during this class. The class will work to build proficiency in basic sailing skills including tacking, jibing, sailing upwind and downwind and then use those skills to participate in games and activities on the water. After the completion of this course, sailors may be invited to an Intermediate Teen class.
