Please review our Program Selection Chart if you’re unsure which camp to sign up for: https://gigharborjuniorsailing.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/GHJS-Program-Selection-Chart-landscape.png Youth class is the best place for sailors ages 8-11, under 5 ft. tall, and under 110 lbs. Sailors get the opportunity to build skills in one-person boats designed for kids. Participants should be comfortable in and around the water. Please note all sailors at this level complete a capsize (tip over) recovery test the first day of camp. This is for safety purposes, and will be coached and supported by staff. The class will work to build proficiency in basic sailing skills including tacking, jibing, sailing upwind and downwind and then use those skills to participate in games and activities on the water. After the completion of this course, sailors may be invited to an Intermediate Opti or Intermediate Teen class. Sail Cubes and Open Skiffs are used for camp at West Shore Marina, while WorldWide Sailor Prams are used at our Wollochet Bay location.
