Review our How to Choose a Class document https://tinyurl.com/3suvs7k9 Two participants will sail together in close proximity during this class. Teen class is designed for sailors ages 12-18 who are new to the sport. We recommend sailors over 115 lbs, or over 5 ft tall start with this class. Sailors will learn the basics in double-handed boats. Sailors get the opportunity to build skills on their own in boats designed for kids. Participants should be comfortable in and around the water. Please note all sailors at this level complete a capsize (tip over) recovery test the first day of camp. This is for safety purposes, and will be coached and supported by staff. Build proficiency in basic sailing The class will work to build proficiency in basic sailing skills including tacking, jibing, sailing upwind and downwind and then use those skills to participate in games and activities on the water. After the completion of this course, sailors may be invited to an Intermediate Teen class. Please note the class location carefully as two separate sites are used for Summer Sail Camp programs. If you are enrolling more than one sailor, please check our master calendar or email us at info@ghycjuniorsail.org for help. Boats used at each site are: 420 (TYC Wollochet Bay) and FJ (West Shore Marina)
