About This Activity

Description

We're sorry, this activity requires in person registration. Please contact us at (630) 323-7500 ext. 0 during regular business hours for registration information.

Fortnightly teaches the basics of dancing and ballroom decorum to eighth grade children from the middle schools that feed into Hinsdale Central High School.

*IMPORTANT UPDATE*

To ensure balanced enrollment, each session starts with 25 spots for both boys and girls, with Session 1 opening 30 spots due to its popularity in previous years. This system helps prevent an imbalance, such as 50 girls and only 10 boys in one session, or vice versa. Please note that I will be opening at least 5-15 more spots/session. The total number of children per session completely depends on overall enrollment. I want to reassure you that no child will be left out of Fortnightly. We are working hard to accommodate all families.

If you have not yet registered for Fortnightly, please see below on how to proceed:

ALL of the sessions are full, and I was not able to register my child for Fortnightly. What now?

Again, please do not panic! Although we cannot guarantee a spot in a specific session, we can guarantee that your child will get to participate in the program!

Step 1: Enroll your child on the waitlist of their preferred session.

Step 2: Email Molly Towns at mtowns@thecommunityhouse.org with the following information:

· First & last name of your child.

· Which Middle School your child attends.

· A ranking of session preferences (1-4).

*Please do not list your child on more than 1 waitlist as this delays the preference process on our end.*

Molly Towns will notify you directly to register off a waitlist. Reminder: A spot in your preferred session is not guaranteed.

FORTNIGHTLY 2025 GUIDELINES & DRESS CODES

CHAPERONE INFORMATION

The most important role chaperones play is to model mature and respectful behavior to the students.

CHAPERONE GUIDELINES

- Chaperones should dress in formal attire; examples include a dress shirt, tie, dress slacks, dresses or skirts, dress pants and dress shoes.

- All are asked to please arrive 15 minutes prior to class to check in to meet with dance instructors and go over duties and expectations.

- During class, ensure all students remain in the dance hall.

- During class, assist instructors by participating when needed. Participation is necessary only if absences require it.

- At the end of class, remain in the dance hall so the students may thank chaperones as they exit.

- Please remain until all students have been picked up from The Community House.

DANCE CLASS STUDENT GUIDELINES

- During the class, expect a formal atmosphere. Each class is devoted to the instruction and practice of the waltz, salsa, swing, merengue and/or hustle with partners changing continuously.

- So class can begin promptly, please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of your class. This allows time to check in and obtain name tags.

- NO PHONES OR SMART WATCHES ALLOWED DURING CLASS.

REQUIRED DRESS CODE FOR PARTICIPANTS

- School code appropriate, formal attire is expected; such as dresses, skirts, dress pants, long-sleeved dress shirts, dress slacks, ties, and dress shoes.

- Shirts must be tucked in, and shirt sleeves must be buttoned.

- Short skirts are prohibited.

- Jeans, sweatpants, and shorts of any kind are prohibited.

- Clogs, boots, sandals & athletic shoes are prohibited.

- Based on Fortnightly tradition, short white ballroom gloves are suggested for girls. Gloves can be purchased on Amazon.

- Gum chewing is prohibited.

Parents, please review the above guidelines with your eighth graders. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
