Description
The American Red Cross Junior Lifeguarding Camp is designed for youth, ages 11-14 to bridge the gap between swim lessons and lifeguarding. Junior guards will work on their swimming skills and endurance, learn victim recognition, first aid, CPR/AED and water rescue skills. In addition, they will get the chance to shadow certified guards in rotation to get a real sense of the job. The cost of the course includes a t-shirt. This course does not earn a lifeguard or CPR certificate. Must have a minimum of 6 participants for the class. Registration Deadline: Monday, June 23.
Prerequisites: Before entering Junior Lifeguarding, participants must demonstrate the following skills:- Swim the front crawl for 25 yards demonstrating rhythmic breathing.
- Swim the breaststroke for 25 yards using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence.
- Tread water for 1 minute using arms.
- Perform a back float for 30 seconds or swim 25 yards of elementary backstroke or back crawl.
- Swim 10 feet under water.
